Thought I would have a garden but first the frezze and snoe than no sun to speak of along with rain well maybe next year. My carrots are up abouy an inch -onions no go-lettus no show well thats the way my garden has been going even with mels soil . Discouraged GLAD to see that some of you are having a succes

Would using a cold frame help eek out a bit more of a growing season?

Basically, it is like constructing a mini-greenhouse that you put on the top of the boxes. Because it is clear plastic, it lets in the sunlight, and concentrates the heat to allow for earlier and later growth. It might be helpful in Alaska. There is a section in the book about it.
