SFG soil & drainage question
We got .71 inch of rain this afternoon and I was so grateful for it. But when I went out to my SFGs to plant some seeds, only the top of the soil was wet. I was shocked! Before I planted my seeds I stirred up the soil and watered it good. Where does the rain water go? I just couldn't believe it wasn't wet through and through. I've been watering almost every day. Maybe I put too much peat moss in?

Re: SFG soil & drainage question
I see the same thing from time to time in mine, and I promise it's very close to third/third/third. I can usually dig down a couple inches and find dry stuff even after watering daily without fail. Hotter weather is a big factor. However, my plants are doing fine so I am not overthinking much. I also stick a moisture meter down in the ground from time to time. It moves towards wet the deeper I push it into the ground. 6 inches down, it always registers "wet."
How are your plants? Are things fine other than what you just noticed?

Re: SFG soil & drainage question
My peppers are stunted but the cabbage and broccoli did fine, and I've got good looking squash plants. I haven't' checked my 'high risers' for potatoes yet. I just was really surprised that the soil wasn't wet. I'll just keep monitoring it. It's supposed to rain again tomorrow and then be really hot and dry for the next week! Thanks for your response.
