I finally got a chance to set up and fill my SFG with mix. It's only Mostly Mel's Mix because the stores local to me (and I was done driving hours for this, lol Wink )only sell two kinds of compost, but I figured it would be OK and it's always easy to add more.

My dad built me the frame with the metal bits, and I built the other. The one that's a full cage, but totally not pretty. It's not easy to build a cage alone. But I managed, and it it isn't pretty it still works! I've got all the started veggies/plants in (mostly tomatoes, because well, I like them), but still have room to plant seeds for carrots and maybe radishes.

This is the cage I built:
DSCN1124

This is the one my dad made:
DSCN1121

I did it all on Saturday and Sunday (mixed the mix, build the boxes and cages, and planted everything) so my back is killing me today, but it is worth it! Smile

I really like the thingamajig cross-piece for the netting top. As you say it does remind you of muscles you might have forgotten you had but it'll be well worth it.

Muffinator, that is a lot of work for two days. Beds set up (finally!) 43549 I can sympathize with the aches Beds set up (finally!) 966236 and pains. A good long soak may help. But, the hard work is done! Enjoy a job well done, take a deep breath and relax.

Beautiful!

When I made my boxes, and then when I strung my grids, I couldn't believe how sore I was, and all I did was squat for goodness' sake.

They say it's supposed to finally get warm tomorrow! I'll believe it when I see it, but I'm really hoping they're right!

I think you may be right! Either it's the sun I see out there or it's the end of the world... I'm pulling for the sun myself.

Barkie, my dad came up with that metal cross-thing. It gives the chicken wire a bit more stability and keeps the sides straight. It does add a bit of weight though.... But if I can manage to lift it up high enough (It's only about a foot shorter than I am) the bars give it a nice "handle." My dad is supposed to be working on ways to make it easier for me to lift so it clears the tomato plants. lol.

Would you all believe that putting my gardens in made me wicked sick? Stupid pollen. I thought I'd be fine with a face-mask and my allergy meds, but Nope. I spent the entirety of yesterday sneezing and last night and this morning with lovely sinus problems. Oh well. At least I got the beds put in BEFORE I felt like death warmed over.
