Home Depot Raised Bed Update
So.....I bought 8 of them sight unseen! I was scared! But here's my feedback - everyone is right!
If you want to paint your boxes, these are not for you. They are rough hewn.
What I love about them is that they are very easy and quick to put together. I struggled with corner braces on my original boxes, and they weren't even pretty boxes - just square. The little tops for the corners do dress up the boxes just a little.
It is certainly true that the cedar is only 1" thick (mine were not warped, by the way.) But my 1' pine boxes are on their third year. The only reason I am replacing them is because they aren't attractive enough, since my garden is at the restaurant.
So, while not for everybody, I did get them for $34.95, and for me they are well worth that price!
Photos to follow....
PS - boy, do they smell good!

I got the other raised beds at Home Depot
I went to HD last weekend with the intention of getting my first garden box, that being the 'sale special' 4x4 ft for $34.95. However, I walked by their stack of 4 x 8 ft raised bed boxes which were going for $59.95 (marked down from $79.95). Couldn't pass up the - $10? - savings so I went with the bigger one.
I have yet to assemble it but I did open the box, at least. This set up is made of a mystery 'composite' material, supposedly of recycled goodies. The planks feel pretty solid, unlike some I've handled that later warp and look like crap. I'll post here how it turns out. Can't wait! It's like Christmas! (But I opened it already...)

Re: Home Depot Raised Bed Update
I was in HD last night looking at drip irrigation which they did not have. What I did find was 1x8 cedar that was actually 7/8 inch thick. It was $13.85 for an 8ft piece so two would make a 4x4 box for $28 plus whatever else you choose to add on.
