Help me pick some bean seeds
Whenever I go to the grocery store there are the same boring beans, green very narrow tubes about five inches long. I don't know what variety they are. Do you? Anyway, they look terrible, with brownish spots on them cause they aren't fresh. But the kids love them.
Can you recommend a tasty bean variety that you enjoy and will do OK in a short growing season (less than four months)? Can be pole or bush, yellow, green or whatever. I have tried scarlet runner beans and they didn't manage to produce many beans before frost hit. I can't even plant bean seeds in my garden until May 20. I've never tried starting them inside before and would rather not have to.

Re: Help me pick some bean seeds
I decided to buy some "Tendergreen Bush" which will be ready to eat in as little as 50 days. I am going to seed swap too with a friend who has some yellow beans, not sure the variety. I'll report back!

Re: Help me pick some bean seeds
Sorry for the delay in answering, but I received some Contender Bush Beans that are short season and supposed to be "ideal" for cooler climates.
My package of Canadian Contender beans says 6 - 14 days to germination, then 55 days to maturity.
My package of US Contenders beans says 7 - 14 days to germination , then 40 days ro maturity.
Trying them for the first time this year.
