Cedar or Redwood
What's more robust for an SFG, cedar or redwood? I live in Phoenix so need to keep in mind the hot, dry weather. Thanks.

Re: cedar or redwood
Your hot dry climate probably makes a longer life doable for any wood choice, wet is what is toughest on wood and the freeze/thawing cycles which you don't have to worry about. Mine are cedar. I did somewhat reluctantly treat the outside and tops/bottoms of mine with Thomsons water sealer after a lot of looking over similar products. But mine see a lot of different severe weather that yours won't. From what I have read redwood only tops cedar in the price category all else is a virtual wash and those vocal redwood tree lovers will thank you too. If it's important to you redwood may be a little more classy looking if you want to shell out the extra $$$.

Re: Cedar or Redwood
Thanks for the reply. I just purchased 2 4X4 cedar beds from Home Depot and wanted confirmation on whether cedar is a good choice. I have 2 other beds I made from redwood planks and they don't look much different from the cedar other than the boards are thicker. I'll stick with the cedar as they do look nice. Thanks again.
