It looks like rain outside, so the carrots are in and raring to grow. I have done 2 squares with 16 in each.

I will get mine in if it ever stops raining here. Nice steady rain since last night. Good for the stuff that is already planted, hard to plant more! I'm going out when I get home from work even if I have to do it in the rain!

I waited until today, now we have some intense thunder a ways away. Im not standing in that garden yet. lolol Auntie Em Auntie Em comes to mind.
Im hoping the storm passes quickly, it seems it may and I can get out there. If not I will wait until Sunday.

Re: CARROT WEEK HAS BEGUN!!!!
Got my Nantes planted today. It was so windy/gusty that I think I might have a few carrots come up in adjacent squares!

Re: CARROT WEEK HAS BEGUN!!!!
I found out about this after I planted mine. They've been there a week and I don't have any more squares. Do I still count?
Re: CARROT WEEK HAS BEGUN!!!!
Of course you do! When it comes to carrots, a few days plus or minus don't mean much.
Re: CARROT WEEK HAS BEGUN!!!!
I did it, I was able to get the carrots in. I planted one square Scarlet Nantes and for fun I also put in one square Kaleidoscope. I will plant more squares of each carrot variety on the 17th, Im experimenting with the Lunar
Scarlet Nantes to the left and the Kaleidoscope on the right, ( clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, Stuck in the middle with you) I sure liked that song.
Nantes, you cant see the marker on my fork label I sure wish I could remember who used forks here. I loved it so much bought a whole box the other day.
Kaleidoscopes
Im excited to see how everyone does !!

Re: CARROT WEEK HAS BEGUN!!!!
Silly question from a very green (ha-ha, get it?) newbie:
I bought my Nante seeds and I have my boxes ready to go, but I have not planted anything yet. Is it okay to plant the seeds or should I have germinated them indoors first?
TIA,
Kim

Root crops don't like to be disturbed much. I say "Plant 'em!"
Mine have to go in tomorrow, because it is snowing right now. I may have to put some kind of protection over them to get them in the box in time for Carrot Week, but you don't know how far you can go until you go too far!

Mine will have to go in in the morning, it was WAY to windy today, even Pooh Bear would have stayed inside.

Re: CARROT WEEK HAS BEGUN!!!!
My carrots are in the ground. I picked tax day because it is easy to remember. I planted scarlet nantes, mini nantes, something free from Bakers Creek and old seeds. It is late for us to plant carrots, I usually plant in the fall. I figure my harvest should be fine, since I do not like carrots. Happy Gardening.

Re: CARROT WEEK HAS BEGUN!!!!
I may have to wait until Monday to plant my carrots. The weather here is awful. It's extremely windy right now and they're calling for rain/snow mix all day tomorrow.
Good thing is that I am going to make my paper towel carrot seed mats today with the kids for craft time! Then they can help me plant my square of carrots on Monday when the weather's nicer.

Planted mine yesterday - before the Wind Advisories went up here. Sorry for all the folks battling the tornados!

Re: CARROT WEEK HAS BEGUN!!!!
It is a balmy 34 (F) and the snow and ice have turned to slush, so I just mixed up my first small batch of MM and filled my carrot box. I got a little heavy-handed with the water while mixing, so I am going to let it drain in its spot overnight and plant my seeds tomorrow.
The roads are still too icy for me to go get my loads of cow and horse poo, but maybe by the end of the week I will be mixing up the big loads of MM for the big boxes.
GG

Re: CARROT WEEK HAS BEGUN!!!!
Well...what was that Mel said about you can't over-water you SFG/Mel's Mix? Mother Nature tried just a little while ago! Heavy, heavy rain and quarter-size hail, tornado warnings. Needless to say, I got off the computer in a hurry! I looked down from my upstairs window and I know I saw water puddles where I planted my carrots. I'll plant another square on Monday just in case.
The good news is...the sun is shinning now and after taking a round in the SFG, everything else looks okay and the puddles are gone.

Re: CARROT WEEK HAS BEGUN!!!!
The snow was almost gone here and the soil was thawed......but now we're having a snowy relapse!
Carrot seeds will have to wait a couple days. Sigh!

Our snow was all gone as well, except for the mountains at the corners of parking lots that will be there until the end of May! Lawns were starting to get a hint of green, robins were hopping around, and then the relapse!

Okay, I couldn't take it any longer. My MM had 3 hours to drain a bit and I just went out and planted my square of Scarleyt Nantes!
