Getting worried

i guess it is just "stage fright" I have my beds ready to plant and suddenly I am worried this whole venture just won't work. It is so hot and shadeless where my beds are but it was my only place to put them. I keep thinking, this small amount of soil, how will it grow anything? Anyone else have these concerns when they first started.?

Since, I have a black thumb and tend to kill everything, I would answer your question with "yes". But I keep trying and Mel says it will work and I don't think this forum would be here if it didn't work.

I was told it was a crazy idea and it wouldn't work by everyone. Now they want to know when I will be picking stuff.

If you'll notice, everyone around the country is having great success using 5-6 inches of MM except for the folks in arid, hot locations like parts of Texas, where they have trouble keeping their soil hydrated using any gardening method. Being in zone 7, you shouldn't have a problem with that.

The first year should be fun for you because, since you 'don't know anything', you can't do anything wrong! If you followed the book to make your MM, and you water properly, then if it doesn't work, it must be Mel's fault! Right?! That was my attitude when I started....come to think of it....it still is!

Or try this one: in gardening, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.

Or the best one: No matter how well we do everything correctly to start our gardens every year, we're still at the mercy of the weather. It's a fact.

My gardening practices have a lot to do with keeping a low stress environment, where I can re-charge my batteries. I do what I can, and then I accept what I am given. Hopefully there's an idea or two here that you can use. Go for it. Nothing will happen unless you start!

Throw those fears to the wind... plant it and it will grow. If you do not plant you know for darn sure it wont.
