Drip irrigation

Needing ideas/instruction for a drip irrigation system that will be supplied by my rain barrels!

Im working on a set up myself to basicaly do the same thing from a rain barreli tried 1 idea and it didnt work out a splanned (i owe boffer some mix lol) right now im working with some 1/2 inch pvc tubeing that i can drill holes into and connect together in a sorta grid formation to be attached to my grids and then attached to my rain barrel with a spigot/valve for when i need to water ill post up pics as i find a successful solution

I'll keep watching for some pics. I built 2 rain barrels (connected with a manifold system) the end of last summer, so haven't got to use them yet. Concerned that the distance from the garden (approx. 30-40') will be an issue for flow. Have been looking online all day for ideas. Here is a link for one I saw that sounds similar to what you mentioned. I've considered running the overflow to a new barrel closer to the garden which would give more water storage and would also resolve the distance issue....hmmmm.

yup that video pretty much hit the nail on th ehead as to what my next attempt is lol just a little bit smaller then my design

That video is exactly what I did last year Smile

I tied two boxed together (one long 10 foot piece of pvc, drilled only where needed). I had a shut off valve in the middle so I could "divert" water if necessary.

This was my "short" method because i wasn't allowed to purchase any more last year, but this year i plan on doing as Chok.

Out of curiosity, how much daily watering would a 8 ft x 4 ft x 12inch deep box need on average? I was initially going to just have a hose hook up installed close to the garden this summer, from the house (My garden is way, way in the back yard, about 150 ft away from the house), but this has got the creative juices flowing... I'm building TT Boxes, and now I'm thinking of adding some 5 gallon buckets to each one with gravity fed drip irrigation...Would 5 gallons a day for each 8 x 4 box suffice?

In my Table Top boxes I placed soaker hoses 2 inches under the soil along each of the long grid markers of my 2x6 and 3x5 boxes and it seems to be working fine. I also drilled a 3/4 inch hole about 2 inches below the top edge of the box and ran the hose through the hole leaving about 1 inch hanging outside of the box to connect my garden hose to. The end of the soaker hose is larger than the drilled hose keeping the soaker from being pulled back into the box if I move the hose when planting or mixing in additional compost.

I'm thinking of just laying the Hose or pvc pipe on top of the soil and hanging a 5 gallon bucket to gravity feed them... The water will fill up the buckets both from a water hose close to them and from a small rain barrel collector I'll be installing on the shed near the Garden... I guess I'll have to "Wing" it this season to come up with a "guesstimate" on how much water it'll take to be enough...
