Gardening by the light of the moon

If you do, today and tomorrow are good for planting your peas. As will be Valentine's Day and the day after.

I'm curious boffer (not saying your wrong, just curious) where are you getting your informations from, I have a different report, if there is another, I'd like to compare.

From the 2011 Garden Almanac, published annually, by Ed Hume, a celebrity gardener:

...Just as the moon's gravitational pull influences the ocean's tide, it is theorized that it also influences the movement of fluids contained in plants. Moon gardening is based on this belief. It has not been scientifically proven or disproved but subscribers report continued success from this method...

He stresses not to use a calendar from a previous year, it won't be accurate. Are his dates accurate? I don't have a clue.

Just a day off from the Farmer's Almanac, I come from a llloooonnnnggg line of farmers and was raised in the heart of farm country (IL) so that's the one I tend to go to first. Thanks for the heads up on another source, it would be fun to compare. I am making my own calendar, but just for notations and such, someone in my family may enjoy it one day, I know I enjoy stuff like that. In my baby book is the front page of the Chicago newspaper from 1967's blizzard, I have a copy of this years on the way, just to keep together in the same place for future generations.

I do agree with the affects the moon has on tides, growing, and babies, I had four, so I watched the calendar for full moon & new moon dates, and that's how I picked my due dates, I was closer than the doctor on the first 3 (boys), my youngest (my daughter) took her sweet time getting here, but when she decided it was time, well, let's just say it's a good thing we did not have to drive far and there was no rush hour traffic, we arrived at the hospital 10 minutes before her arrival.

I am getting a kick out of Thomas Jefferson's Garden Book, it has his personal notations, and historical dates (where he was and what was going on in this new country) as well as notations from is accounting book. For example he has recorded how much fodder he fed his animals and how much dung they gave back, even accounting for each horse's dung.... I'm a history nut, a bit OCD, and love playing in the dirt, so I'm loving it.
