First Harvest! Empty First Harvest!

Post  beagle love 3/17/2010, 8:27 pm

Okay so it's not a true harvest but it is one radish that I grew on my own and harvested! It is a teeny tiny radish that I don't think was ready to harvest quite yet, but I accidentally broke the top and wasn't sure it would survive, so I pulled it. Even though it was small it was still tasty, very spicy my favorite. I did have to fight one of the dogs for it. I set it down and continued watering and suddenly I noticed the dog had it by the leaves. I won and it was yummy! Smile

I pulled a garlic yesterday. It was about the size of a pea! Never thought to take a pic.

First Harvest! Empty Carrots!

Post  WardinWake 3/17/2010, 8:49 pm

Our first harvest this year was two carrots we missed last fall. I appears they continued growing under ground even though the tops were long gone. The two carrots were each in excess of 3 inches in diameter.

We have not cut into them yet so I can't say what they taste like.

God Bless, Ward.

Haha that's hilarious about fighting the dog for it! Then again I'm a dog blogger (link is in my sig) so I'm always on the lookout for funny things our dogs are doing.

I wish we already had radishes... mine are just barely coming up now. More snow forecasted this weekend. First Harvest! Icon_sad

I love radishes and so does my wife. She really likes the spicey ones. What kind of radish did you plant because when you read most of the descriptions they all say mild taste.

Hi Titans. The radish I used was Burpee Cherry Belle Radish. Hope this helps. I wasn't very pick on the brands I selected since this is my first garden, I just picked up whatever I came across at different stores.

Jealous !!

Deborah .... who has been snipping thyme and chives but it has been years since they were planted, so I thinking they don't count.

ooh, fun!!!

if you like the taste of radishes, you HAVE to plant some nasturtiums! they're a flower that you can eat - and they're spicy like a radish. makes a really pretty addition to your summer salads. Smile we have all red nasturtium seeds here that we planted and we just love the red against the greens. . .

gardening is such fun!! can't wait to see what else you have coming up for harvest soon!
