Re: Tech has failed me
acara,
Yes - very much so. From your description it's clear that the most effective way to use 1-gallon jugs is to distribute them evenly throughout the central portion of a hoop house. If they are placed near the hoop house wall surrounding the plants, there is much greater thermal loss through the side-wall of the enclosure.
My instinct would have been to make a ring of jugs around the edge of the SFG just inside the enclosure to maintain a little warmth around the plants. Now, I'll rethink that and make a ring of them further inside!
Because I'm in a hot climate with long days and relatively mild winter temperatures, that will probably be enough to extend my growing season considerably.
Thanks so much for the explanation.

Re: Tech has failed me
For simplicity sake I would guess ...
A) Keep the gallon jugs in as much sunlight as possible
B) Keep the jugs as close to the plants as possible
C) keep the jugs and plants as far away from the cold walls of the greenhouse as possible
