How to get rid of wild onions?
We put down a thick layer of newspaper in 2 of our beds instead of the weed blocking fabric & it has dissolved over the season, now big patches of wild onions are coming up. Any way to kill them other than a shovel?
Only a Shovel Works Here
If you find anything organic that works, PLEASE let me know.
I don't have a big problem at this house, but I lost the battle at my last place.
Only a shovel works for me.

you could just eat them in stir frys or salads. Down here---wild onions are eaten. They are good.

herbicide works
Although I do not recommend it, certain herbicides work really well. I know because twice our neighbor has sprayed his wheat for wild onions and garlic and the spray drifted, killing every single onion and garlic plant in my garden.
I think wild onions may be different in other areas. I tried eating some once that came up in our lawn and they were awful. No wonder the grain elevators dock wheat growers' payments if they smell onions or garlic in the wheat. Also, they make the milk taste bad if cows eat them.
Good luck at getting rid of them, Dixie. They're really hard to dig out, but that's the only organic way I've found to do it.
