I just saw this news article and thought I'd share.  What caught my eye was the USDA assistance in financing one of these huge tunnels for certain growers and the aim to increase local produce availability.  I can see one filled with SFGs especially tabletops for some of our gardeners who are trying to produce enough for a large family or group of families.

Some of our forum members already do this on a smaller scale with much success. But someone with the land and interest in making a SFG into an income producing hobby might want to investigate.

I think a couple of our members have the same style of green house. So beautiful.

High tunnel growing Empty Spotted in the Wild

Post  rabbithutch 6/1/2014, 1:50 pm

I've seen these in rural Texas.  I wasn't aware that it was a USDA project.  I thought it was just some well educated farmers.  Perhaps there is some value is reducing the intensity of sunlight here to allow the plants a little cooler growing environment during the first growing season and to provide more warmer for extended harvests during the second growing season here.

Next time I see one I'll snap some pics.
