LaFee,
You should read a little on the web site. I was amazed at what they offer and what they tell you. It looks a really good site.
Thankyou for the compliment about Julie's faeries, I will pass it on. I am sure it will be well received and appreciated.

Re: List of Seed Companies
I recently found one I like, I did not see it on the lists above, but if I missed it forgive me.

Re: List of Seed Companies
I saw almost all of my companies above, except for botanicalinterests.com. I love them, they sell a bunch of heirloom and/or organics. They are slowish on shipping, otherwise, good quality seeds and nice selection.
I think we need to compile a spreadsheet of sorts where all of the above are listed with pricing, quality, selection, shipping, and other general remarks information, so that people can find what best suits them. Good participation, people!

Re: List of Seed Companies
Garden Medicinals has wonderful herb seeds and they're affiliated with Southern Exposure Seed Exchange, which is a company I really like.
Re: List of Seed Companies
Just a vote for Baker Creek (www.rareseeds.com). Excellent catalog and I normally get an extra pack or two of seeds tossed in.

Sustainable Seed Co. << Click There
I have been ordering from them and their seeds arrive promptly and packed nicely. They have a facebook page and will respond to questions. They willing talk to you on the phone as well.
Potato Garden << Click There
I liked their customer service, nice folks and they ship early to the south for seed potatoes.

Is a blog that lists seed companies that are either owned by Monsanto or do business with Seminis or other companies that are owned by Monsanto.
to be clear, Johnny's seeds from Maine should not be on the list. Bottom line: 3 years ago
Johnny's Selected Seeds bought about 4 percent of its vegetable
varieties from Seminis, which at that point was only recently purchased
by Monsanto and was itself a conglomeration for several other seed
companies. Even before the Monsanto acquisition, Johnny's was seeking to move away from Seminis because it was providing them with poorer service, and was focusing on large-acreage growers, who are not Johnny's core customers.
Monsanto does not own Johnny's Selected Seeds. It is an employee-owned company.
Johnny's does not carry, nor has it ever carried, a genetically-modified variety.

Re: List of Seed Companies
Has anyone heard anything about a company called sweettomatotestgarden.com. They carry the Hawaiian Tropic tomato seed which I would like to try. I can not find this variety anywhere else.

Re: List of Seed Companies
Time for a newbie question ..... are catalogs zone categorical(???) what I mean do they serve a particular zone or could one buy from any catalog and get seeds for his/her zone that would grow fine.

Re: List of Seed Companies
Most seed catalogs serve all zones. They usually list the zone it will grow in with the seed/plant.
Is there catalogs that are for certain zones?

When you get your AHSFG book have a look at the back pages 260 onwards
You'll start to realize it is far more important to use the frost dates than worry too much about the vast majority of veg.
Some will obviously be zone specific due to soil conditions or big extremes like tomatoes for a short season in Canada or the extreme heat of the Mexican desert.
When you look on line at the seedsmen if you have any concerns simply ask via the online contact system , asking if a certain variety is good for your zone beause hydrid varieties and names of old favourites frequently change year to year with each different seedsman . If they bother to answer you know where to spend your money.

That is were I got my seeds for this season that I purchased and they all did quite well. They give a lot of detail about growing so I suggest anyone intersted in purchasing seeds to request a catalog and check out their website

Seed Shopping Rules
On the first page of this thread is a nice list of seed catalogs.
Here is a blog entry about important things to consider when ordering seeds for the coming season. From Margaret Roach.
