Thought you might like to see a REAL winter garden.

Hahaha! Well, we will be thinking of you, and posting pictures, when we harvest our peas, lettuce, broccoli, etc. Every area has its pros and cons. Winter gardening Icon_smile

Canada is beautiful, but you pay for it. It sure make Spring extra sweet though. So Cal and the deserts are more stark, but we get to garden year round.

I have been running out of gas on the garden. There is something to be said for a break. I am, however, looking forward to seeing how my first winter of growing veggies goes.

You are right on that one Chopper. The break is nice........just wouldn't mind if it wasn't quite so long! LOL! The dreams become too grandiose and reality doesn't have a chance to catch up!

Old Hippie where are you in Canada? I am in NH USA, so our winter looks like yours, thought I dare say, it is not quite as long.

British Columbia......smack dab in the middle of the province.

I know our Eastern Provinces get some wicked snowfalls too, but like you say, a bit shorter winter as a rule. Winter never used to bother me. In fact, I actually enjoyed it, but the older I get, the less I like it. The shorter days with the lack of sunlight make a huge difference on me. It is easy to understand why plants do so much better if they get lots of sun. SO DO I!!!!

I'm glad you have such a great sense of humor, it appears that you really need one to continue on. I love it when you said," The dreams get so grandiose that reality can't catch up" How true, how true.

I cringe to think about how many more generations of insects are reproducing in our unseasonably warm weather here. I'm starting to wonder if autumn will arrive this year, much less winter. (Oh, I can't believe I said that. Now my back yard will probably look like yours in January.) Smile

I'm hoping to grow a flat or two of lettuce and spinach this winter under growlights, and I'm also really hoping our forum friends from "Down Under" will supply us with photos from their growing gardens during our dismal winter months.

Hang in there, Old Hippie. We can all get each other through the "short days".

When I lived in MA and autumn started out that way I used to think, "Maybe this is the year we have a really easy, mild winter." It never was.
