Well, I've finally started getting some salad greens and my tomato plants are growing baby tomatoes (I started in July). But, I've noticed over the past couple days that my spinach is looking worse & worse & even starting to seed since the plants are so stressed. So, after sneaking to the garden last night hoping to catch slugs, I discovered that I have an infestation of cabbage worms snacking on the spinach! It's so bad that I pulled out most of the plants today & just replanted. But, on the flip side I'm cooking fresh green beans tonight - they're really starting to produce!

Anyway, the continual frustrations of gardening!

Fortunately the spinach will be ready before long. Love those green beans.
I planted my fall lettuce a few weeks ago and am now getting great salad greens. My swiss chard is finally producing enough to fix as a side for the two of us. My bush beans are running out of steam, but they were great while they lasted.

Newgloves, spinach prefers cool weather. It goes to seed very quickly in warm temperatures. Sorry to hear about the cabbage worm infestation. Your fall planting should do better.

Newgloves: Sometimes the season for spinach can be extended by using shade cloth to cut down on the sun exposure. Another way is to put your bed under a shade tree. That has worked for us.

growing spinach in hot weather is easy all you need to do is follow 4-5 week rule.
which mean each planting is harvest at 4-5 weeks.
Any longer then that you have worry about bolting.
the same rule applies to leaf lettuce.
there other tricks but they really are not worth the trouble and the expense unless you growing a good size crop and you are being paid premium for it.
