Hi, Everyone!

I live near Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada -- zone 6a; I've gardened for years and am really looking forward to SFG; it looks most productive, easy to get going and easy to maintain those veggies. We have a new garden to build and I'll be giving the SFG beds a central and charming location (at least, that's my plan!) Smile

We just built a train station as our new home -- hubby wants to put in a garden railroad (around my garden once it's up and going) so I suggested that we live in a train station -- quite the adventure to get here, but here we are. The SFG is perfect for the veggies and we will be building a natural garden using native plants for the rest of it -- great for relaxation.

I see that the first Symposium of 2011 will be in Toronto -- not far from me -- even although I am just starting SFG, would I be able to attend the Teaching Symposium? -- I always find that is the very best way to learn anything -- learn to teach it. Or, are there restrictions?

This will be a great gardening year!

Welcome fsnaturelady and hubby.......
I love your idea of living in a train station and having a garden railroad. One of the loves of my life is trains, big and little 'uns. I'd love to see pics when you have it up and running.

This is a great forum with many helpful folks to give answers and its where we share our successes and our failures together. We learn from one another.

Enjoy gardening.

Another Canadian!!! cheers

Welcome to the forum! Don't forget to check in at the Canada forum. We just posted our February update. I know... what could possibly be happening in the garden.. in Canada... in February. We're dreaming! That's what.
lol!

I'm afraid I can't answer your question about the Symposium, but I'm sure someone else can.

Howdy and Welcome to the Best Gardening Forum ever:

As far as the symposium to become a certified SFG teacher go ahead and put in your application. All applications are reviewed and you will be notified how to proceed. Most classes are limited in size by the number of the available seats and the number of folks who request to become instructors. And yes you are correct. The best way to learn about SFG is teaching others and of course becoming a regular on the SFG Forum.

Fsnaturelady........love the train station home idea. Sounds wonderful. My grandson would think that was terrific. My DH and I like anything that is non-traditional. We would love to have an old firehall, school, church, barn, warehouse or lighthouse as a home. Yes, we are totally nuts.

I haven't heard anything about a SFG Symposium but believe me, if there was ever one held out west here, even in Vancouver, I think I would beg, borrow or steal the money to get there. It would be awesome to get certified as an instructor.

Saw that you posted on the Canadian subforum so posted to you there too. So glad to have you with us.

Fsnaturelady and hubby, Welcome to SFG!
I am in southern Iowa and I have a garden railroad in my back yard lol....
Hubby lives and breaths trains. But he is a truck driver. We don't live in a train station but we have a friend that built one kids scale for their backyard. The kids love it and they can sit and watch their railroad layout in bad weather!

Hardiness zones and maps never cease to amaze me. 6a? Wow, I never would have guessed Niagara Falls was in the same climate zone as me. Welcome aboard. I guess we'll be starting tomatoes at about the same time....lol.

Welcome to the forum, fsnaturelady. I can't wait to see photos of your stationhouse and garden. I love trains, too, especially traveling on Amtrak to see the grandkids.

glad you\'re here

BYBG, check it out. Not all of Canada is The Great White North. The southern tip of the Niagara Penninsula is almost the same latitude as the northern part of California. I have NO idea why I am living where I am. Looking forward to SFG! 116526

Gwynn

Sometimes I wonder... I am only about 1 1/2 hours from Niagara and I'm feeling like I live in the Great White North right now. We've been getting soooo much snow lately. I wish I could retire down in Florida every winter. happy sunshine
