Glasses for seed planting?
I purchased a packet of Broccoli seeds from Home Depot and 3 times I have tried to start the plants inside so I would be ready for fall plantings. Three times NOTHING came up -- not even one sprout. (Each time I waited 2 weeks before trying again!)
Tonight I was going to try one final time. But this time I put on my glasses so I could carefully plant each seed individually at just the right depth. Only then did I get a close look at the seeds. They were all crushed! Not one intact seed was in the package.
So I learned two important lessons today.

- Don't assume that the seed you purchase are in good condition and
- Examine the seeds (with glasses if needed) before you plant them.
Re: Glasses for seed planting?
Wow! I had a hard time getting my fall seedlings going, too. This is the first time I've tried doing that. It took a few weeks for anything to come up from my first batch, and then the percentage rate was dismal.
The second time around I used less water and more heat (house is only cooled to 78, so I thought they'd be ok, but they did better when I put them in the uncomfortably warm garage at night).
Now I've got windowsills full of little sprouts just waiting for the weather to break a bit (and for me to get my beds in order...which is hard to do when it's still too hot outside!)
