Howdy Folks:

Below is a link to Mel's new Tomato Covered Wagon design. Gotta love it.

God Bless, Ward and Mary.

I want it!! I just ordered a bunch of heirloom tomato seeds for next year's garden. No more Early Girls for me!! I would love to grow my heirlooms in this.

Now if I could just convince my DH to let me buy one. Twisted Evil

A few questions and observations:

How does the netting across the top increase the amount of tomatoes grown by the same number of plants? My tomatoes did exceedingly well this year, but by the time they reached the top of the regular SFG trellis, they were pretty much blown for the season. The only exception was a cherry tomato.

Bending the frame outward would allow for greater air circulation than with upright framing, but is it sufficient for 8 tomato plants?

How would you best position the box directionally to get maximum sunlight to the plants?

If your tomato vined over the top, wouldn't that cut off sunlight to the rest of the plant?

Also, regarding the depth of the bed: I know the classic recommendation for SFG is 6", but in my 11"-deep boxes the tomato plants exponentially out-produced those grown in shallower ones.
