On Mel's book - covered wagon uses 10 foot PCV pipes for 4x4. I tested on my 3x3 and it is very hard to bend the PCV 1/2 inch pipe. Did any one try making 3x3 using this method?
I live in kind of a forest area with many deers in my yard. Last year was my first time using Square Foot Gardening. I made a chicken wire cage for my 4x4 and it worked great protecting from deers. Besides that my garden did not grow at all. It was a disaster. But I still have big hope. I am planning to put covers on my vegetables this year since I have 1/2 day sun. Let me know if some one tried these PCV covered wagon for 3x3. Thank you.

You said: " I am planning to put covers on my vegetables this year since I have 1/2 day sun."

Could you elaborate? Why cover? Is your garden disaster related to not enough sun?

You could always build a 3X3 square pvc structure covered in chicken wire or other barrier and just place it over the box. Not the same, I reaize.

For smaller hoops, I use 1/2" cpvc. cpvc is different than pvc. 1/2" cpvc is smaller than 1/2" pvc (one is measured by the outside diameter and the other is measured by the inside diameter), and it can be bent into a tighter radius.

This box is 3x5. The electrical pvc hoops are 92 inches long. They've been in place several years.

You know...someone should start a line just for gardeners for PVC pipe in green or other colors...hm...maybe someone already does...? But all I ever see is white, so either it doesn't exist or it's too expensive! Not that white is bad, it would just be nice to have some other options... Covered Wagon for 3x3 & 3x6 Icon_smile

You know I though about that and I bought brown spray can for plastic use. I used white pvc last year and it did not look good. I am try to protect my vegetables from deers. I made one chicken wire for 4x4. It works great! But it was not so easy to make. Lots of scratches. By the time I wanted to start the planting I ended up using just pvc.

As I mentioned before my SFG was disaster. Mainly 1/2 day sun or even less.

But I am going to plant this year again and I already move the SFG to different location. So hopefully the plants will grow.

Thanks for the thought.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all the pictures and notes. When I started SFG last year, I had hard time finding Vermiculite in my area. It was really hard find the coarse size so I ended up using medium. And when finally I found the coarse size it was $46 or so for 4-cubic-foot bag.
I don't know if that was the reason my SFG box is really wet. Because of that I drilled more holes today. Hope it works this time.
