Need Veggie Sets for Fall Garden
Someone please help me. I am planting mainly seeds for cold weather plants (raddish, lettuce, and so on), but would like to plant some seedlings or sets for these vegetables, for harvest this fall and early winter: broccoli, edible cabbage and kale, and onions. I have called all over the place at local nurseries and farmer's coop's but they all say that these are available only in late winter or early spring. I do not want to try to grow them from seed. I also cannot find any sets on the internet. Where can I find them? This will be my first SFG ever. zone 6b, August 27, 2010

I'm in the same state and zone as you! One of my local greenhouses, Friend's Hill, has broccoli and cabbage plants. Not sure about kale, though. http://www.pendletoncounty.net/AKpages/page-frihill.htm
If you want to send me a PM, you can let me know where you are located, and then perhaps together we can find you some plants!
BTW, I planted Packman broccoli last spring and it is still giving us broccoli! The stems look like small tree trunks! I also planted another variety last week that I had started from seed. It's called Apollo and it's a variety similar to broccolini (small stems, lots of branching). Nighttime temps are already getting cooler now here in the mountains, so I hope I get to try some before it frosts.
I'll give a full rundown of my SFG next week in our regional forum. Stay tuned...
