Spinosad? Empty Spinosad?

Post  Retired Member 1 7/25/2010, 9:08 am

On another forum I frequent, several folks use an organic pest spray called Spinosad. I'd never heard of it, but apparently it won't kill bees, but does take care of many other pests including squash bugs and flea beetles. Anyone here have experience with it? I haven't found it locally and it's quite expensive to order on-line, but now that bees are plentiful I'm reluctant to use Neem oil except occasionally.

Spinosad? Empty Re: Spinosad?

I've been using spinosad for fire ants here. I love it. I have used it sprinkled around the vines of my squash, but that was for ants. I put it on an ant hill , or like one day after a rain I was standing at my shed getting things out and I was getting bit by those fire ants, put some granules down, they were gone by evening. I use it to sprinkle in the garden beds too for ants that might come up, I didnt think to look what else it worked on:)

P.S.
I bought my fire ant killer, ingredients being spinosad at my local feed store. They also carry the bonide products I use, liquid BT etc. I know spinosad comes in a spray, I just have not looked for it in that package. I always want to buy a concentrate and dilute with water, I save money this way. I will look the next time Im in the feed store and see if they have a concentrate.

I just ordered a concentrate off Amazon. Since our feed store closed down, it's difficult to get products like this, and driving 30+ miles to the next town is just not worth it at times. I ordered a quart which I believe is diluted 2 oz per gallon just like the Neem oil I have, so it will go a long way.

Awesome you found the concentrate !! What brand was it ? I am at a stand still with buying "remedies" (funds for the house, or the remedies always have me torn) My goal is to only have concentrates less work in the long run, dusting my garden with BT makes me not want to go down there and do it. So I know I have to get a concentrate of it as soon as I can.
Would love to hear your progress in this venture

The one I ordered is manufactured by Monterrey. There were several, but this ended up less when shipping was factored in. Unfortunately it wasn't available on Amazon's free shipping, then again, I had a $25.00 gift credit, so it ended up being almost free.

I went out and saw shield-shaped bugs all over my 21 peas this morning, and I'd Neem oiled yesterday, so I do hope Spinosad works. At least it's another organic spray in my arsenal and won't kill beneficial insects.

Yes thats the brand I found when I started searching for spinosad last year for the fire ants. I did look at the concentrate on Amazon and the pic has a sprayer attachment I thought it was for the hose only, I wasnt reading fine print that day.

I was also reading Monterey Link and it says its a BT replacement? wow !!
You definitely got a good deal on the pint too !!!
Let us know how it goes
