I harvested my first broccoli. I think it was getting ready to bolt since it has been kinda hot these past few days. I will harvest the remaining two heads in the next two days. The pic looks a bit yellow but broccoli was good!![img] So far so good. - Page 2 Brocco10

Good for you Dixie. Remember to harvest that inner beauty while its still young and green and the little heads will grow along the side later. They are the tenderest according to my grdau who loves Broccoli fresh and raw.

Tomatillos look like small green tomatos but are acutallly a member of the gooseberry family. They are acidic and used a lot in Mexican cuisine. Usually anything with the word “verde” in it uses tomatillos. I make a mean green salsa with tomatillos so am planning a planting a couple as soon as I can put something in the ground (Montana is most definitely in a different zone than CA, I’m just now starting seeds indoors.) One warning however, while the fruit is delicious, all other parts of the tomatillo plant contain toxins and should not be eaten.

So the summer heat is taking its toll on my garden. I knew this would happen with our typical daily average being 115 degrees or higher. My garden did pretty well I planted corn and that was the worst crop I had, I wont plant it again. Tomatoes did great they are still giving fruit. Right now I have watermelon (sugar baby), cantaloup, squash, jalapenos, okra, and some sweet peppers. Lesson learned: watermelon TAKE OVER!!.

Here are some pictures from this year. I'm getting very excited to plant fall/winter crops since this is out best growing time, the weather is perfect!

Beaglelove....What great pics of your harvest. You did good for someone who lives in such high temps. I couldn't survive out there. When its in the 80s here in Maine I'm drooping pretty badly.

I can't even imagine such heat! You did a great job with your garden. Are those Cascabella peppers in the first picture? This was my first year for them & boy are they hot! I somehow messed up with my plant labels & ended up with a bunch of them. I'm pickling them for my brother to take to work, those guys love hot stuff.
