BUSH zucchini
Oops, I bought Bush Zucchini seeds. Do these need a tomato cage type support or a stake or what is best for them? I have a trellis available to them but ...guess they don't need it. If they don't sprout soon I'm just going to go buy some plants and make sure they are the vining type.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
Re: BUSH zucchini
I bought the bush type of zucchini, too. I planted mine in the 2'x2' corner of my L-shaped bed. I also planted one in a 5-gallon bucket raised up by 2 bricks and holes drilled in the bottom for drainage. The zucchini in the raised bed will probably get some kind of tomato cage support to keep it from going too crazy and invading other squares.

Re: BUSH zucchini
Giggle, I just went out and the zukes and cukes are finally poking through the dirt. I was so close to giving up on them!!
Re: BUSH zucchini
Uhhh... if your bush zucchini are anything like mine they will get BIG. I have two in the ground and they each occupy 9 squares - and I mean TOTALLY occupy the squares. There leaves and steams are such that I couldn't plant anything in the adjacent squares even if I wanted to.
Re: BUSH zucchini
So in this set-up, can I probably just lean them over this arbor thing in the middle? They are planted to the left of the arch, in those 4 closest squares. They won't have as much room as they are supposed to, but they'll live. Two cukes (vine) and two zukes (bush).
Re: BUSH zucchini
I highly doubt they will lean. The stems are thick and although it gets "bushy" tall, it is also low to the ground.

Re: BUSH zucchini
I'm with milaneyjane. Bush zukes won't lean. They'll bush out in all directions with big leaves and thick stems and certainly over power anything planted in the next square.
