Re: Companion Plants
so...I haven't had a chance to check out any of the links yet but can someone clue me in...what is considered companion planting in regards to SFG? the same box? same square? within x feet of each other? etc...
Thanks!
Thanks!

Sorry to nit pick, but adjacent = sharing a common side? Is kitty corner okay? Wouldn't you know it - I have broccoli and cauliflower among my tomatoes and Mother Earth News tells me everything in the cabbage family dislikes tomatoes .

Re: Companion Plants
I agree with Wild Bill. I define companion planting as adjacent squares - as in a square of basil next to the square of tomatoes next to the square of carrots. I would keep things that don't play well together at least a few squares apart if possible.bonnie0128 wrote:so...I haven't had a chance to check out any of the links yet but can someone clue me in...what is considered companion planting in regards to SFG? the same box? same square? within x feet of each other? etc...

Re: Companion Plants
Someone on another thread suggested planting onions toward the front of squares where winter squash are planted (as they are companions) and that they wouldn't take up enough room to jeopardize the squash plants. Do you agree?

I would agree that might be an option.bonnie0128 wrote:Someone on another thread suggested planting onions toward the front of squares where winter squash are planted (as they are companions) and that they wouldn't take up enough room to jeopardize the squash plants. Do you agree?

Thanks for the advice/clarification - looks like the broccoli and cauliflower are moving

Companion planting at a glance, though the site originates in the UK, it's an interesting read: http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/57vJt3/www.the-gardeners-calendar.co.uk/Companion_Planting/companiontables.asp/r:f
