Re: sweet potato question
Depends on the variety. Beauregard are ready in about 90-100 days. Some other varieties take 120-150 days. I wait until the vines start to die back or definitely before the first frost.

Re: sweet potato question
Thanks, that's a big help. The variety we ordered was not the one we got, we got the one that is in the grocery stores. I think it is about 100 days but I put mine in a greenhouse to shorten the time. I think around the 15th I will brush the soil back on one and see what I have. Do you get more than one potato per plant?

Re: sweet potato question
johnp, I sincerely hope we get more than one potato from each plant as I only planted one potato.
Re: sweet potato question
KJ, I think each plant is suppose to produce something like 4 or 5 potatoes. Even if there is only one, it will be very special.

Re: sweet potato question
Thanks, sanderson. I only planted this one potatoe as it rotting and I was going to throw it on the compost heap. there was a green shoot so I took a chance and it has grown quite a nice bunch of leaves and covered maybe about four square feet. Can't wait to see what is underneath, and maybe save some for replanting next year.
has55's R & D Journey;sweet potatoes
I have had great success with growing sweet potatoes in soil on a trellis. Question, has any try to grow sweet potatoes in leaves like potatoes?
