Post  FarmerValerie 4/1/2011, 10:18 am

The decline in bees is so great that the UN is getting involved. Maybe one day we will admit we don't know it all, and letting nature work is best. The reason for the extreme devistation during the Irish Potato Fammin was no crop rotation and planting all the same crop.

I'm not trying to start a debate in any way shape or form, or critisize anyone who uses pestisides, just saying consider your options, try natural first. Heck when it comes to fire ants, I use chemicals, I have grandkids, and my second son (now grown) was allergic to them, I also have animals, no ants allowed in my yard. When I was checking out books at the library the other day the lady asked me if I was "organic", I said no, it's too much of a hassle to go totally organic (for me anyway-I admire those who can) there are just too many things to do and not do, I just try to garden naturally.

Thanks so much for posting and sharing this camprn, it's important, especially to us beekeepers.

Thanks for posting these databases.

I believe knowledge is power, and the more we know of both sides (or multiple sides), the better decisions we can make. We also know this issue is hardly black or white.

I'm trying to be organic, but know I need to keep informed of all options.

Thanks!

Bump.

Many of us prefer not to use pesticides, but when it is absolutely required, those least harmful to the consumer (us), our pets, pollinators, good bugs and the environment should be used.
