Hello! From Portland, OR Zone 8a
I am new to SFG and wish that I had discovered this site before I had planted. I moved from the “shovel” to container gardening and a 4’x8’x24” raised bed (tomatoes/garlic) about 8 years ago when a flood wiped out the garden. This February I expanded my garden and then built a 4x4 in May to try SFG. Raised bed gardening seems to be similar to SFG so I am hoping for great results!
My Garden Beds
4’x8’x24” (18 inches of peat/vermiculite/compost) Oldest bed
4’x8’x24” (12 inches of peat/compost/sand)
6 ft diameter round (18 inches of peat/compost/sand)
6 ft diameter round (6 inches of peat/top soil/compost)
3’x6’x12” (8 inches of top soil /compost)
4’x4’ (Mel’s Mix)
Thank you to the member in Iceland, I have 6 Hula Hoops (dollar store) over my 4x4 SFG, the birds don’t like them. The peas are using them as a trellis, and it’s shading the 4 squares of lettuce in the center, it is pretty. Thank you to everyone for all of your gardening wisdom!
