Sifted Peat
Hi all,
So last Saturday, I sifted all of my compost for my new SFG
Today, Instead of just fluffing my peat, I decided to sift it. Not sure if this was necessary, but I did anyway. And again, I was amazed at the difference between "out of the bag" and sifted.
I have attached pictures of the sifted and the debris. ( Can I put the debris peat into my compost bin?)
1st picture is the sifted
2nd picture is the stuff that was sifted out
3rd. picture is my generic sifter, needs improvement but did the job.

Re: Sifted Peat
If the debris from peat seems to be sticks, it can go into the composter. You don't want to compost peat moss.
Re: Sifted Peat
Oh dear
Trying to clean the garage after the mess of mixing
Yesterday I dumped it into the compost pin
About one 5 gallon bucket .it was sifted through 1/4" so mostly hard stuff
I can't remove at this point. Did I wreck my new pile?

No, just slowed down the composting process, but it compost out. And, when the compost is finished you will have compost with peat in it - just like the ones sold in big box stores. You'll be fine.

Re: Sifted Peat
A single bucket that appeared to be mostly stems shouldn't hurt in the big scheme of things. Just use the finished (and screened) compost among all the beds.
