spring onions wont develope

This is the second year that I planted Spring onions that did not develope. I get tall thin green tops, and soft bulbs on botton. Added a little fertalizer this year, and still no results. I planted in early April. Tops grew tall and thin. Bulbs on botton were small and soft. Pulled and replanted. Getting the same thing again. Any thoughts on what is wrong. I thought that is what they were supposed to be like. Little or no bulbs - like scallions? I may be mistaken. And not sure what you mean by a soft bulb? Rotten or just loose? Because the spring onions I am familiar with do not have super solid bulbs.

No the bulb is not rotten. If I peal away half of the bulb, I will get down to a small solid onion. This size is very small. I see them in the store, and they are about the size of your little finger. Mine are a little larger than a pencil.

What variety of onion is it? Here
is a link that speaks to onion requirements, but was written for the southern commercial grower. Can you post a photo?

That sounds like what it's supposed to be to me. I dunno. Scallions are spring onions, and they range from really thin, to kind of overly big for their variety (old in my opinion). Show some pics if you can, please. Smile
