I very seldom have much of a disease problem. I keep the bottom leaves pruned off so that they never touch the soil, which prevents a lot of soil-born diseases from affecting the plants. I fertilize them every two weeks with a mixture of fish emulsion, EM-1, and molasses. Then, on alternating weeks I foliar spray with compost tea. The plants seem to be happy, and are now just over 6' high.
