Karyanne, I just realized no one replied to your post. Give them a try at direct sowing. Place 2-3 seeds per hole according to their final thinning distance. If there is a lot of rain, the seeds may be washed around the square, though. If you are set up for starting seeds indoors, it may be a better bet. I direct sow bok choy each fall for winter eating. Zone 9A, here.
