Seems as if my squash wants to start making a little early. It's almost 8 inches tall and starting to bloom. Yes that is half a 55 gallon blue barrel it's in.

Yellow summer crookneck. SVB killed all my others and this was an experiment to see if squash like a larger container. Need to get cracking and plant a zucchini in the other half of the barrel. Had cucumbers in it but they quit producing and looked horrible so they came out a few days ago. Think I'll switch my squash to the larger containers and plant another round of cucumbers in the smaller 16 inch pots, one per pot. Had four cukes in half a barrel, think it might have been too many in that sized container. Cleaned up the raised bed too and have honeydews and Sugar Baby watermelons in there now.

Very good!  One of the major reasons I cam back to SFG was the SVBs....I love patty pan squash, grew them at my old house in dirt and they did great.  Tried them at my now house and lost them every year to SVB.

Relocated the garden to the back, put up boxes, and have had success ever since.  That said, I did lose one squash late last season to SVB, it was still actually producing but I didn't want more casualties so I took it out.

I'm going to try everything in the video I posted a while back. Maybe at least one will work.

I had foil under my squash plants in a tabletop of new MM.  Still lost all to SVB and pickle worms last year.  I think I got 1 yellow squash and 1 zuke and 2 cukes.  Otherwise all succumbed. Year before all I got was male blossoms.  Never did get any female blooms.   GRRRRRRR  Have already had 1 yellow squash and 4 cukes this year,.  Cooler and rainier June this year.  But my brassicas are like lace.  Rain keeps washing off the Neem.

I harvested a few squash and zukes before th SVBs killed everything. I did go out and hand pollinate every morning. The SVBs didn't seem to attack the base of mine like all the info I find says. Did pretty well till it started raing every three or four days and washed all my DE off the stems of the plants. Not sure what did my cukes in. Got about a half dozen nice ones before they all turned brown and started dying. I don't see a lot of pollinators flying around. Maybe more flowering plants to attract them are in store.

Yeah, you will have to attract pollinators....

Cukes, did anything happen to the leaves before the plants died?

They had yellow blotchy spots that eventually covered the whole leaf. Treated them with milk wash and later fungicide but it just kept spreading up the plant. Watched a couple of videos, might have been white flies but never saw any on the plants.
