Hello from SE Michigan
Hello, I'm Cindy from SE Michigan. I love to garden, but haven't had one in a few years (I wasn't very good at it). I was recently at a baby shower where a few friends were talking about their square foot gardens. I found it very intriguing, so I checked out the book from the library and read it. I am going to start with 1- 4x4 box. I bought everything to build the box yesterday and most ingredients for the Mel's mix. I'm sure I will have lots of questions, so I'm thankful I found this forum.

Cindy. I'm in Redding, CA (way north of everything). This is my 2nd year, so I'm not an expert yet, but I'm happy to share what I've learned (mostly the hard way ).

Thank you, I'm excited to get started!

Hi Cindy. Let me add a warm welcome from Atlanta, GA!
Was the book you read the 2nd Edition of the ALL NEW SFG? The one with no digging whatsoever?

Yes, it was the 2nd edition. It's due back at the library next week. I'll have to order the book so I have a copy on hand. I'm sure I'll be referring to it often.

Welcome Cindy! So exciting to hear about your first SFG! What do you like to eat from your garden?
Come on over to the Northern and Central Midwest thread to hear from other midwesterners, with similar growing conditions, etc. (N&C Midwest). Usually there is a monthly thread going on.

Re: Hello from SE Michigan
My husband put my boxes together today, 1- 4x4 and 1- 2x2. I have almost everything ready to mix for the Mel's mix. I have the vermiculite, peat moss and 4 types of compost (humus/manure, mushroom, worm castings, and a compost that I got from Whole Foods). I'm not sure what else to put with it.
I'm planning to grow potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans and a few herbs. In the fall I'd like to grow carrots, radishes, lettuce, scallions, and peas.
I believe our last frost date is around May 10th, so I will aim for then to get things planted.
Thanks so much for the warm welcome! Looking forward to gleaning from you all.
