Oak
Maybe chincopin oak, a white oak.

Chestnut oak came to mind for me -- but I couldn't figure out how an acorn would have gotten in there. Since you also suspect oak, please, what is your hypothesis on how an acorn got into a potted plant container? What a Face

Your guess is as good as mine... I make my own potting soil similar to MM, maybe the compost I used had an acorn in it?

I have been reading up on bonsai techniques, but I am not sure if this tree is a good candidate.

Once in Southern California, I found a 9-oz pinecone in my Mel's Mix.

Here in Central Oregon, a year or so ago, I found what appeared to be an acorn of some kind in one of my beds, probably buried by a squirrel.

Your own potting soil would do it! I generally don't let that indoors, as I've had issues with pests coming in.

White oak should work, but in my (albeit limited) experience, people usually purchase older saplings and trim them (top and roots) to start the process, rather than building up from a seedling.

IIRC (I did a bonsai stint about 25 years ago): you need a cool but protected site for the tree to overwinter in; they need to maintain the deciduous cycle but are more likely to be damaged by cold than an full size tree grown in the ground because the don't have much thermal mass protecting their roots.

Leaves are a little too pointy but Poison Oak came to mind when I saw the three leaf arrangement.

Use the Plant ID app identified above.  Let us know.

I planted this, then lost control. Somebody please tell me what it is. Embarassed The leaves are not yellow -- that's just the sun. The leaves are about 3-4" long.
