Opossum (Possum)

Mystery solved what happened to one cantaloupe. I've seen an adult opossum on the fence at night for a handful of years. With the rat problem in the attic (5 trapped to date), I assumed it was a rat. But this morning as I started cleaning a messy area along one side of the house, I uncovered a juvenile opossum! The shape of the mouth and teeth leads me to think the culprit was an opossum, not a rat. Husband earned his keep today dispatching the critter. He doesn't like to inflict trauma, but it had to be done. Rat snap-traps are a "humane" way for rats. PS We are in a large zone of housing developments. Go figure.
