Goumi Berries, anyone?
I just stumbled across a reference to Goumi Berries online, and I really like what I read. I've added them to my list of plants to order next spring. Is anyone here familiar with or growing them?

Hm...I may have one of these...next to my raspberry box. It reaches out and gets in my way a lot but the berries are so pretty that I haven't gotten rid of it yet. Hmmm...wonder how I can confirm if it's a goumi berry plant or not..?
If I can, and it is, I'll collect seeds for trade this year.

That would be awesome CC!
I'm interested in any "exotic" or rare (little known) edibles I can use for jellies or other sweets treats.

I went home and looked at my plant and it's not one.
If anyone finds a source please let us know?

One source is "Just Fruits and Exotics." The bushes are currently out of stock, but you can request that the company notify you by email when they become available.

Scroll to the bottom of the page to see which varieties they sell.

Do you think they taste like currants? I like them, but apparently we aren't allowed to grow them in South Carolina. This might be a substitute.

Please note that plants in this genus have a history of becoming invasive (if you grow it, use netting/fencing to make sure birds and other wildlife can't spread seeds from your bushes elsewhere.) The related autumn olive (together with non-native honeysuckle) cause wildlife habitat problems where I live. The nitrogen-fixing gives them an advantage over native plants and they just take over.
