I have beautiful big potato plants. It is only Mid June so it is still early in the season. This morning I watered the entire garden, now about 2-3 hours later some of my Potato plants are wilting as if they are starving for water. Does anyone have any idea Why?

it may just be their safety response to heat. Most of my garden wilts in the mid day sun even though it's only 73 degrees out. This is our strongest sun of the year here on the Cape.

Are you in a warm area?

Depends on a number of factors.  Location/climate - is this Marathon in the Fla Keys, or Greece, or Iowa or Wisc.  If Marathon, Fl it is way too hot for potatoes.  They like cooler weather.  Here in Ga we plant them in Feb and are harvesting now.  How deeply are you watering.  The potato roots are way down at the bottom of the plant.  Feel down below the plant and make sure it is sufficiently wet where the roots are.  Our temps have been in the low 90*F.  It could also be that the soil is too damp.  If you mulched your potatoes heavily, it could be that is is very wet down below.  When did you plant the potatoes.

Hi Labtrainer,  Welcome to the Forum from California!  glad you\'re here  As you can tell, folks need a better idea of where you garden.  When you get a moment, please add your state to your Location.  Your area should be cool enough for potatoes, but the folks closer to you can give the best help/advice.  Thank you thanks

Sorry my location did not show up.
I am in Marathon, NY, just about the center of the State, half way between Syracuse to the North and Binghamton to he South.
The wilting only seems to be on one of the smaller plants (nearly completely wilted as if starving for water) I dug down along the stem about 6 inches and watered heavily, next day no change. Also one of the larger plants has one branch that is wilting. It has been rather warm for this area (upper 80's Low 90's for the past several days) I may prune out any wilted material tomorrow.

I modified your location. Are you over-watering? Are you using SFG with raised beds and Mel's Mix? When did you plant them? More info and a photo will help. Thanks
