Will this work for growing potatos?

the dimensions are 18" diameter and 14.5 " height holds 15 gallons.

I have some plastic pots that are 11.5 high, diameter 14.5 and hold a little more than 8 gallons.

What do you think, can I grow potatoes in these that I already have?

I don't see why not... maybe you want to think about a small variety like a fingerling... and only one (maybe two) in a pot. Would you likely plant a few pots? (I'm guessing that these are garden pots that already have drainage holes)

I have a bed that I'm building as my potatoes grow... it's 4x4 but not SFG (about to put on my third layer of cinderblock) and the 'job' is kind of heavy, so planting smaller sounds good to me.

I was also thinking about taking an old tarp that doesn't do me any good for water-proofing, and cutting and stitching that into bags like the store-bought grow bags.... now i have a measurement, thank you!

I have potato growing bags from another supplier and they do work. I actually planted 5 seed potatoes in the bag and had to hill twice during the season. My plants are beautiful & healthy and are flowering right now. I can't wait to taste them. I am so happy with the results that I intend to get a couple of more bags and plant different varieties for a fall crop. Good Luck, Tbonepickins

I grew them in 5 gallon buckets and they did just fine, one plant per bucket. Your 8 gallon pots should work real well !! Good Luck !

I bought builder bags -- heavy, reinforced woven poly bags that are intended to haul busted-up bricks, broken concrete, etc., from a site. They're about 2' in diameter, by about 3 feet tall. They're also not watertight, so there's good drainage. I have them up against the house -- they're actually really handsome plants, so they don't look "farm-y" at all -- the bags are bright white, so it's a little unconventional, but they're pretty attractive.

I think I paid the equivalent of about $5 for 5 of them...I'm using 3 for potatoes. I'm growing Charlottes (a delicious waxy potato, best for salads and steaming), in a prepurchased mix that included manure and compost(I wasn't going to buy another 100 litres of vermiculite for a small amount) - and they're literally growing faster than I can get out there and add more dirt.

I'm expecting a lot of potatoes this year!
