First kohlrabi of 2020. The leaves are huge! I'm pretty sure the leaves for green kohlrabi were much smaller. That's a full size "ball" at nearly 3" diameter as you can tell by comparison with the bricks they're sitting on. The leaves make it look smaller.

I grow a gorgeous purple kohlrabi, too Mark. Love it!

Hope this isn't getting boring. This is another Kohlrabi (I know, they all look the same) But this time with a ruler for comparison.

The leaves are just too big! I can use some of them in stir fry, but unless I start making kohlrabi leaf conserve, I think they're just going to become compost.

Winter carrots. Getting the beds amended for spring planting.
Re: What Have You Picked From Your Garden Today
Large "Cauliflower" #3 (there have been some small ones too). I attempted to blanch this by folding the leaves over, but it didn't like it. What I've learned with this and the other plants is that Cauliflower/Broccoli really likes to lean over into other squares to get more light. In this case it was blocking the celeriac. So, it's getting harvested.

I've been getting about a box a day of salad (5 to 7 times a week) since the beginning of March

I realized a little too late that I should be starting some replacement lettuce. No telling how long these will keep on producing.

Re: What Have You Picked From Your Garden Today
I am looking after my 2.5 year old grandson for a few hours a day. Yesterday we were in the garden and he picked a kale leaf and put it in his mouth. He immediately started spitting it out and made fake gagging noises. I then picked a lettuce leaf and he ate it all. Then when he was on the other side of the bed he leaned over and tried to pick a spinach leaf. The spinach plants were small and recently planted. Unfortunately as he pulled on the leaf he pulled the whole plant up. He kept doing that even though I kept trying to get him to stop. A new gardener for the family.

Cute story. He already knows from where food comes. Little future gardener.

I was on my way out to hack a path to the back gate when I noticed the artichokes. This isn't really even in a "garden" anymore. It helps that we had a rainier and cooler year so far.

Wow, that is awesome.
Is all that greenery part of the artichoke or is that what you were planning to hack.

That's all artichoke. Artichokes have lots of foliage for maybe 3 months a year.ralitaco wrote:Wow, that is awesome.

CN, I am so expectant for mine! I planted crowns, so have to wait a couple years to get an actual harvest. Nothing like fresh asparagus!
