Makes sense, Margay.  Why not put a stepping stone in the squares you do not use.  then you would not have to weed them.

Yes, Kelejan, that is on my agenda, have to get to the store to get a couple.  Thanks for the suggestion! CANADIAN REGION: What are you doing in June 2016? - Page 5 3170584802
Make them circular, will look prettier. Very Happy You can also move them around when you need a change. I think I will make use of my suggestion for myself.  This year I have not managed to fill all my squares so if I put in something like that, it will help smother the weeds.   But I do use a lot of mulch.

Actually I have circular ones here but they are too big.   Sad

So I have to find something else, thinking of a hexagonal shape....pretty as well  Wink

Today we had a garage (yard) sale at our house. Some people showed interest in our flower beds in the front yard garden. As well I was able to take them to the backyard to see the pond, flower beds and the SFG. One person in particular said she was "inspired" by the SFG Table Top which is next to the patio. She asked about the plans for the TT and I told her they came from someone on the SFG forum (my thanks to sanderson). So I feel I did a bit to promote Square Foot Gardening today.

Well done, Trolley Driver.  Isn't it lovely when someone admires your efforts?

Sanderson:  the weather co-operated for the wedding and everyone had a lovely time.  When I took a walk at 11pm they were still at it with such loud music I could hear it two blocks away. I must admit that in my opinion it was far too large a party for a quiet residential area and perhaps should have been held in a hall in town. But as my bedroom is at the rear of my house and I disperse with my hearing aid when sleeping it did not bother me personally.

It was warm enough to be pleasant, and when the rain came it was during the small hours and had stopped when this morning dawned and most of the remaining guests and family were still abed.

The cars were all gone when I returned from my Sunday breakfast with friends, then later on they all came back and no doubt are now clearing up all the debris and continuing their family gathering with no music this time.  Very Happy

Today the weather is getting back to normal summer and I was able to mow my main lawn before the real heat returns. I have to look over the strawberries that have suffered due to the heavy rain and could not be picked for two days.  That means I have to pick over the berries and evacuate the creatures that have decided they would like to make holes in them.  Better get going.

They are here ... the JBs are in our garden. I saw them on one of the rose bushes. I expect they soon will be on the raspberry bushes and bean plants.

Someone else is (will be) here as well. President Obama and the President of Mexico will be meeting with our Prime Minister Trudeau here in Ottawa tomorrow.

You can draw your own conclusions concerning the fact that I included a meeting of politicians in a post about beetles. In my opinion both are pests.

Here is an interesting follow up on the political leaders' meeting here in Ottawa.

My wife has a niece who lives in Ottawa with her partner, David. He is the Executive Chef for a catering company and was responsible for providing the lunch for President Obama, President Pena Nieto (Mexico) and Prime Minister Trudeau on Wednesday during the meeting of the "Three Amigos" (North American Leaders Summit). Looks like he handled the pressure well.

Maybe I should be speaking to David about using some organic vegetables from my SFG in some of his dishes.

It has been brought to my attention that our dear friend Kelajan has lost her little Jazz. Jazz fought a valiant battle. Kelejan will be away for a few days while she mourns the loss of her companion. We will miss hearing about Jazz and his walks with Kelejan.

A big thunderstorm passed through late this afternoon. Our power is out.  In fact thousands in Ottawa are currently without power. I'm using my cell phone to write this. The SFG appears to have survived the strong winds and heavy rain. Looks like the evening Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill will be disrupted.

We got it last night around midnight. It was remarkable! What a light show! Some houses on the Cape were struck by lightning and set afire, and lots of trees down. Nothing wrong at my house tho except for a couple of flowers blown over.
