Re: We grieve today for our friend and mentor Mel Bartholomew
Oh God, No!
Made such a difference in my life beginning almost 6 years ago. We exchanged a few lovely emails since then. Such a terrific person.
I'm gutted but pray knowing his suffering is over and believe he is whole again.
Job well done, All my respectful affection to you, Sir Mel.

Re: We grieve today for our friend and mentor Mel Bartholomew
I knew this day was coming, but had hoped it would not be so soon.
This loss is a painful one for many thousands of people around the word who have been helped and inspired by Mel's legacy.
Since 1992, when I read the First Edition of Square Foot Gardening, I have been in awe of Mel's achievement and dedication to perfecting the method and sharing it with others.
I also admired Mel's dry wit and incisive intellect.
He will be missed greatly.

He has a great legacy...hopefully I can leave one on a smaller scale to my children, family, and friends...maybe even a stranger or two that walks past my SFG's.

I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

Re: We grieve today for our friend and mentor Mel Bartholomew
I'm so shocked - I had no idea he was ill. His show on PBS was a fav of mine in my younger years and it's what came back to my mind when I decided I wanted to learn how to grow veggies.
Praying for his family as they face the loss of this special man.

Sad day. Mel was a visionary thinker. And a hands-on engineer. What an awesome combination is that? Also an inspiration to us all who follow his guidance. And will continue to do so. Because it works.
Prayers and great vibes going out to everyone who is mourning his loss, especially
his family and close friends.

I'm so sad to hear this. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I'm sure he was greeted on the other side by many, many loved ones who have gone before him. He will always be remembered by his wonderful contributions to the world through his SFG method.
