Herb & Garden Fair - Wilmington, NC
I saw that there is an Herb and Garden Fair going on in Wilmington, NC this weekend.
http://www.poplargrove.org/festivals/herb-garden-fair/
They are having classes and on Saturday at 2PM:
Tim Matthews, representing NC Cooperative Extension: “Square Foot Gardening”
I may have to get over there to see if he knows what he's talking about

I'm planning on going. maybe I can get some transplants and/or seeds.
Also, it will be interesting to meet other SFG'ers or at least people interested in it.
I may even try to get some folks to come here

Re: Herb & Garden Fair - Wilmington, NC
Just a quick update on the Herb & Garden Fair and the SFG class. I will start with the class and finish with some photos...(exciting, I know)
There were about 10 of us who attended the class. Most everyone had a garden but only 1 other couple ever did SFG. The gentleman who taught the class works for the NC Cooperative Extension and he said he learned about the SFG method about 3 years ago. He did an pretty good job. He hit most of the highlights and seemed to have a general knowledge of the SFG process. He is not a certified SFG instructor and I think that would have made a big difference. (I did chime in to be sure the audience knew they wanted the ANSFG book.)
As for the Fair, it was rather nice. There were several vendors from different nurseries/farms from around the state with their starts. I was amazed at how many different varieties of tomatoes there were. Also there were several vendors that only did herbs - some for eating and some for medicinal purposes. Lots of garden art and of course lots of great people.
Here are some photos my award winning photographer wife took:

Thank you for the report and beautiful photos. The house in the last photo. Is that where the event was hosted? I would have had a hard time resisting buying some of those plants.
Re: Herb & Garden Fair - Wilmington, NC
Yes that is the house at Poplar Grove plantation.

Re: Herb & Garden Fair - Wilmington, NC
Yes we had a very nice time; at least until I started to carry out the plants. That was a catch 22...could have used a cart to carry them all, but then I would have bought more...
And yes the azaleas are blooming all over. Next week is Wilmington's Azalea festival

Re: Herb & Garden Fair - Wilmington, NC
I went to this annual even 3 yrs ago. Got a beautiful Japanese Maple.
AS a follow up on this post, Poplar Grove has in the past hosted a farmer's market every Wed morning for the past umpty ump years. Ralitico, I heard the market might not be running this year. Have you seen or head anything. Sure hope they found the funding to keep it open.
Shelton Herb Farms out of Leland is always there. I got pepper plants from her last year, but at the actual farm.

The house is a popular tourist spot and open to the public. It is beautiful in the spring. I any of you ever visit the area, check it out

SFG. I have volunteered to speak, but never got called and I'm not the only certified instructor in the area.
