Re: Soil Amendment/Conditioner vs Compost
I agree Jimmy but some folks say that will interrupt the echo system. (or something like that)jimmy cee wrote:For those who have access to forests / woods, etc. take a walk out in them and scrape off some of that great nature's soil. Those areas are growing with 80% fungi dominated soil...some of the finest you will get.
I'm going out this weekend and get me some of that natures soil.

Thats the way I feel also Jimmy. There's a large wooded area (State owned) not far from my house where I squirrel hunt. I'll be going out there this week and take a few 5 gal buckets with me.jimmy cee wrote:sanderson wrote:Here, most of the forests are owned by the Feds or State.

Re: Soil Amendment/Conditioner vs Compost
I know, I know. Those 5 years working as a partner with the US Forest Service in the Sierra Nevada Mountains tainted me forever about how fragile the ecosystem up there was. I never took as even a pine cone! Talk about Miss Goody Two Shoes.
Re: Soil Amendment/Conditioner vs Compost
I'm blessed! Over half an acre of our property is forest.
Silly question: since I have forest soil what should I do with it, add it to my compost pile?

Ginger, I cannot in all honesty suggest you do this, because I'm not sure. However, if I had that material I would add it to my growing beds as is.it doesn't need to be composted. Everything grows in it, been standing for years and years just adding to it.. I would also fill a couple of five gallon buckets and experiment. Some info listed in this book.

After adding it to the beds, it should multiply as it full of little creatures and that is what they do.
One does not need to strip the forest.
