Re: Earthworms Vermicompost: A Powerful Crop Nutrient
The pandemic lockdown has allowed (forced?) me to catch up with some reading that has been on my list for some time. Last evening I finished the Charles Darwin, "The Formation of Vegetable Mould, through the Action of Worms, with Observations on Their Habits". Fascinating observations on the earthworms effect on the earth. This book was written in 1881, but is still relevant today.
The book I have is in PDF form - it is a very large file, of about 50Mb - which I downloaded from the Darwin On-Line site. Anyone interested in the subject can download the PDF book from this site: http://darwin-online.org.uk/converted/pdf/1881_Worms_F1357.pdf

Re: Earthworms Vermicompost: A Powerful Crop Nutrient
The two things about the book that amazed me is that this was more anticipated than The Theory of Evolution and that the book came from 39 years of observation of earthworms on his farm. Then after it seems very little research was done in comparison to the importance he attached to the earthworms and their benefits in growing plants and improving soil health and quality. Still much to learn if only to master stewardship of the worms more effectively, as mediators of problems in the soil with their ability to suppress soil borne diseases.
