Cold front!!!!!!!!!
I hadda smile when the noon weather guy excitedly reported the aproach of a cold front. Yes he said the temp may drop to 90 for the high tomorrow with humidity below 70% Believe it or not that sounds nice to me.
Re: Cold front!!!!!!!!!
We finally have high temps just under 90-F. Hope it gets a little colder so I can plant my fall veggies. I will have to take the soil temp this afternoon to see if the soil is cooling off yet.

Re: Cold front!!!!!!!!!
Well the yard long beans finally gave up burned up and quit. I am sure they would still be going strong if I had watered them occasionally but this was an endurance experiment. I cut our asparagus back for its fall growth spurt and it is beginning to produce again. I am mucking out a 4X4 box and getting ready to turn it into a garlic bed. We finally gave up on strawberries cause we just too far south for em. We tried for years special ordering heat resistant varieties but to no avail. We can't make but a hand full or 2 of small berries when they thrive 50 miles north. We give up. Gonna try some heat resistant garlic this week and will let you cellar dwellers know how it goes.
Re: Cold front!!!!!!!!!
yesterday me and Peggy sweated like pigs and worked our tushys off. We spaded and hoed then raked out 4x6 herb ish garden. Then carried 12 bags of cheap garden top soil, 6 buckets of top soil and some plant food to our bed and spaded and hoed and raked it in. We hadda take frequent breaks drink lots of water and I made 3 rags soggy with sweat. Got it all done and planted just before dark got a shower and poored our selves in bed. Proof positive that Murphy and his laws still apply when we woke up this morning it was actually chilly out. Go figure.
Re: Cold front!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for reminding me I should wash my car if I want rain tomorrow! You guys did a lot of work! I'm so thankful all my beds are Mel's Mix, or I wouldn't be gardening.
Re: Cold front!!!!!!!!!
sanderson, please hold off until tomorrow to wash your car. I have my first two bags of fall leaves I want to shred using the mower. Ta!
Re: Cold front!!!!!!!!!
It worked, sanderson, thank you very much. You can wash your car tomorrow knowing you have helped a fellow gardener. One lovely large bag of shredded leaves with some green leaves included. Ready to put on the strawberry bed when I have tidied it up.
It is surprising how shredding the leaves condenses it.

Re: Cold front!!!!!!!!!
It was 48 an hour ago! And yesterday was beautiful! I WOULD have been in the garden if I hadn't been so busy getting ready to leave on my trip tomorrow.....
Re: Cold front!!!!!!!!!

Re: Cold front!!!!!!!!!
Fall is my favorite season. I love the cooling down and settling halfway between too hot and too cold.
I also like checking out the stores for their end-of-season gardening supply sales! I'm a big fan of 50% off, and sometimes get to stock up on pricey items at their only reasonable price.

Re: Cold front!!!!!!!!!
I'm still waiting for the warm dry to appear for this year .
From yesterday afternoon right into the night and early morning we got about 3 inches if very cold fine rain , driven like porcupine quills at you from the side .
Munchkin was like a drowned rat just walking abuot 300 yards from the school bus stop to the bungalow.

Re: Cold front!!!!!!!!!
Down here on the third coast the cold front is fading fast. I was jsut back in our jungle wacking down naner palms that were trying to take over our grape arbor. It didn't take long for me to break a sweat and my sweat rag to get damp even in the shade of the palms. I can hardly wait for the next one.
