top dressing of dried blood , fish meal and ground up bone meal
A week or more ago I went round all the ANSFG beds after taking out zillions of newly emerging self seeding rubbish blowing in from next doors plot.
I thought it would be a good time to give a very light top dressing with the DBF&BM , as it was a slightly windy day with the forecast of heavy rain I got stuck into the task of doing it.
On Friday last week I noticed that my largest hand of celery was looking a bit wilted whilst the rest of the beds were in tip top condition.
On removing the 42 plastic drainpipe I was using for a blanching collar i found the whole centre of the hand absolutely snotty slimy rotten. Obviously some of the DBF&BM had gone down the collar and come to rest in the sticks/ joints / folds of the plant where it quickly went rotten and affected the whole plant.
None of the other plants in any of the veg or flower beds has been affected
This is a timely warning to those who do side or top dress with DBF&BM not to get any down in between the stalks /folds of the plants lest you end up like me.
