Days to Harvest Question

Days to Harvest Question
I have a SFG bed that has a lot of room in it right now because I planted some summer squash and am saving some squares around it for future growth. I thought while I waited for it to get bigger, I might be able to plant something in the corners such as radish.
I am confused about planting guide charts though. They include Day to Germination and Days to Harvet. Does the
Days to Harvest include the germination time? Can I expect the radishes I planted to be ready to harvest in 30 days or 34 (includes the time it took for them to come up)? Yes, I know they are all estimates but it would be nice to know what these really mean.

Re: Days to Harvest Question
Radishes are so easy that it really doesn't matter. I know I pulled some on day 30 others waited another 4-7 days. Just have fun with it.
Re: Days to Harvest Question
Thanks. I will have fun. I guess it doesn't matter that much for radishes, but for those plants with a longer germination time, it would still be nice to know if I need to add that to the Days to Harvest time or if it is already included. I did a web search and didn't find an answer.
Re: Days to Harvest Question
I don't have the definitive answer. But here's how I use the numbers.
Germination time keeps me from getting over anxious and impatient about seeds that take a long time to germinate-like parsnips. The listed germination rate gives me an idea how long to wait before I start thinking about re-seeding if nothing sprouts.
I always assumed 'days' to harvest' included germination time. But for most veggies it just doesn't matter. It takes what it takes. Unless you're growing in a controlled environment, there's just too many variables to predict harvest time. The number on the seed package is just a big guestimate anyhow.
Time to harvest can vary +/- several weeks on longer growing veggies. This time of year you can expect radishes to take a month .

I have really been frustrated with this also...
I want to plant pumpkins for us to carve at Halloween. And I don't want to have rotton pumkins by the time we would be carving...and I also dont want a bunch of pumkins that are not ready. It would really be nice to know to time a harvest...and I couldnt find anything online either.
My seed packet says 120 days to harvest on all my pumpkin seeds. Which means for the end of October I need to plant around mid July to end of July....Im hoping....I guess we will do it and use the results to plan better for 2011 Halloween!
