One of my favorite out door smells is the BBQ pit or back yard fire pit. This morning as i sat drinking my coffee in the first sunshine in quite a while I discovered that the gardenia on the patio corner had burst into full bloom and several hummers were checking out the blooms wonderful morning smell and treat.

Just gave my tomatoes and squash a feeding of vintage, 3 year old fish emulsion I happened to discover a jug of it hiding way back on a shelf i'd finally decided to clean out . It's a fragrance only a maggot would love. I'm sure my neighbors down wind are holding their noses.

Finished cutting mine last evening as well. Though far from the first cutting, I do love the smell especially it is mixed with assorted minty flavors from the mint I mowed. This time of the year our assorted mints we have scattered around the yard are growing fast and escaping their areas.
It is a plesent treat while mowing to round a tree and get hit in the nose with mint mulched by the mower that had escaped the bricks.

The Balm of Gilead is heavy on the air this morning. The cotton wood trees are blooming and this is the scent of their sticky resin that coats the buds. To me that smell means HOME and SPRING. It only lasts a couple days.
True balm of Gilead is supposedly from Commiphora gileadensis, or
Pistacia lentiscus.
A friend made me a salve using the cotton wood buds. It smells wonderful and is very good for chapped hard to heal cuts on gardening hands.

Gardenias. I've been working in the front yard recently and the smell is almost overwhelming! Backyard is cilantro and tomatoes when even I have to brush up to them.

Sweet Peas. A portion of our trellis is about 6' tall covered in them. Love it!

Cow muck slurry ..the local dairy farmer seems to stir up his slurry tanks at 23.00 for an hour or so ( time clocks ? ) so as to not upset folks in the day time .
Oh the joys of having a semi modern small farm 600 mtrs down side of the prevalent wind direction .

Re: What do You Smell In Your Yard Today
Here in our yard, the forest of honeysuckle is in bloom along with lemon thyme. It is such a sweet smell. Almost time to hack back the honeysuckle though. If I don't it will take over the yard.

Re: What do You Smell In Your Yard Today
Mmmmmm... all those smells sound so lovely. For me, with the rain yesterday it's the smell of fresh cow manure in the pasture (trade ya!)
Re: What do You Smell In Your Yard Today
I guess I ama real weirdo or something but I find the smell of a cow pasture after a summer rain kinda pleasing.

+1
Being a gardener who covets manure and an old dairy milker I also find the smell of manure pleasing.

Lilacs! My 3 bushes are in full flower right now. Young and finally producing some fine blooms. I've cut some for friends and today some for myself. Mmmmmm, the house smells divine.
